- Package features an image of the park
The 2020 America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set™ – National Park of American Samoa is the first of five sites to be honored in 2020 and the 51st overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The National Park of American Samoa is one of the most remote national parks in the U.S. national park system. The site includes sections of three islands —Tutuila, Ta’ū, and Ofu. Almost all of the land area of these volcanic islands is tropical rain forest.
This design depicts a Samoan fruit bat mother hanging in a tree with her pup. The image evokes the remarkable care and energy that this species puts into its offspring. The design is intended to promote awareness to the species’ threatened status resulting from habitat loss and commercial hunting. The National Park of American Samoa is the only national park the Samoan fruit bat calls home. Inscriptions are “NATIONAL PARK,” “AMERICAN SAMOA,” “2020,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
Each three-coin set features an uncirculated quarter from the Philadelphia Mint, an uncirculated quarter from the Denver Mint, and a proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint. The coins are held in a durable plastic card that features a picturesque image and a brief description of the site and the coin, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity on the back of the card.
