Washington, D.C., May 9, 2000 — The United States Mint announced today it will begin sending out order forms for the 2000 American Eagle Gold and Silver Proof Coins on May 10. Effective May 15, 9 a.m. (Eastern Time), these coins will be available for online orders at www.USMINT.gov.
“The 2000 American Eagle Gold and Silver Proof Coins are the perfect collector’s item to commemorate the year 2000,” said Acting Director John P. Mitchell. “Renowned as classics of American design, the Proof Eagles rank among the most admired and sought after coins in the world.”
Each 2000 American Eagle Proof Coin is sealed in a protective capsule, mounted in a handsome, satin–lined velvet presentation case, and is accompanied by an official Certificate of Authenticity, documenting the coin’s place in history.
Prices remain at 1999 levels. The American Eagle Gold Proof one–ounce coin sells for $570 (8,000 individual coins available for sale); the half–ounce coin sells for $285 (7,000 individual coins available for sale); the quarter–ounce coin sells for $150 (11,000 individual coins available for sale); the one–tenth ounce coin sells for $70 (25,000 individual coins available for sale); and the four–coin set, which includes a coin of each of the denominations, sells for $999 (25,000 individual sets available for sale). The American Eagle Silver Proof one–ounce coin remains at $24 and has a maximum mintage of 600,000.
Because mintages of the 2000 American Eagle Proof Coins are limited, place your order early. The sale of the 2000 American Eagle Gold Proof Coins will end December 31, 2000, or upon sellout, whichever comes first. American Eagle Silver Proof Coins are available for sale while quantities last or until the 2001 coins are issued. The Mint reserves the right to limit quantities and may discontinue accepting orders at any time. Please allow 4–6 weeks for delivery.
The 2000 American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins will be available in September 2000.
