2001 American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins Available June 6, 2001

Washington, D.C., May 30, 2001 — The U.S. Mint today announced that 2001 American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins will go on sale June 6th, featuring the 4th of the five–year Vistas of Liberty™ reverse designs. Effective June 12, 12:00 Noon (Eastern Time), these coins will be available for online orders at www.USMINT.gov .
"The Vistas of Liberty™ series has made the arrival of Platinum Proof a much anticipated numismatic event," said Mint Director Jay Johnson. "The American Eagle Platinum Proof remains the Mint's lowest mintage product, so customers will want to act fast."
On the reverse, Tom Roger's beautiful design features an American bald eagle over the desert Southwest with saguaro cacti, in a blend of incuse and relief techniques celebrating the heritage of our Nation's southwestern region. The obverse design, by John Mercanti, features Lady Liberty, America's paradigm of freedom and courage.
Prices for the American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins will remain the same as last year's: $740 for the one–ounce; $405 for the half–ounce; $227 for the quarter–ounce, $118 for the tenth–ounce; and $1,375 for the 4–coin set. All American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins are presented in luxurious black velvet packaging, and are accompanied by an official Certificate of Authenticity.
American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins will be available until 12/31/01, or a sellout occurs, whichever comes first. Mintage of these coins is strictly limited; orders received after mintage limits have been reached will not be processed.
American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins can be purchased five ways: First, you can save shipping and handling charges by using the U.S. Mint's secure web site /catalog. Second, you can call 1–800–USA–MINT. Third, you may download an order form at the web site and fax it to (301) 918–2039. Fourth and fifth, you may request an order form from the Mint Customer Care Center at (202) 283–COIN, or download an order form at the web site, and mail it to the United States Mint, P.O. Box 382604, Pittsburgh, PA 15250–8604 (Attention: Order Processing). A shipping and handling fee of $3.95 per order will be added to all fax, mail, and telephone orders for these products.
