United States Mint 2005 Gift Catalog Available September 21

September 21, 2005

WASHINGTON — The United States Mint announced today that its annual fall catalog will be available by mail and online beginning September 21, 2005. The “United States Mint Fall Classics …in a league of their own” will feature a new educational set for those who are just beginning to explore coin collecting. The Chief Justice John Marshall Silver Dollar, the return of the six–coin Westward Journey Nickel Series™ Coin Set, as well as numerous other popular numismatic collectibles, will also be available through the catalog.

“This season’s catalog includes products that reflect our finest work,” said Acting United States Mint Director David A. Lebryk. “From the classic American Eagle Proof Coins to the new artistry represented by this year’s commemorative coins, the 50 State Quarters Program and the Westward Journey Nickel Series™, there is something here for everyone.”

Priced at $14.50, the new educational set — Collecting America’s Coins: Beginner Basics — includes a one–cent planchet, a pair of circulating one–cent coins, a pair of satin–finish uncirculated dimes, and a proof condition half–dollar, with an information booklet providing a helpful introduction to numismatics.

One popular set returning to the fall catalog is the six–coin Westward Journey Nickel Series™ Coin Set, which debuted in last year’s fall catalog. Priced at $12.95, it includes both 2005–dated nickel designs (American Bison and Ocean in View) issued as part of the Westward Journey Nickel Series, including P, D and S mintmarks for each design.

All 600,000 of the Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollars — the total authorized mintage — sold out after we went to print. Therefore, individual Marine Corps Commemorative Coins in proof and uncirculated condition, as well as the new United States Mint American Legacy collection, though pictured in the catalog, are no longer available.

Bronze duplicates of the Congressional Gold Medals honoring Jackie Robinson and Pope John Paul II are featured — at $38 for the three–inch medal, and $3.75 for the 1½–inch medal — as well as the Presidential Medal honoring President George W. Bush — also at $38 for the three–inch bronze medal, and $3.50 for the 1 5/16–inch medal. An album to hold the small medals in the Presidential Medal Series is available to collectors. It can be purchased with or without the 1 5/16–inch medals. The complete collection is priced at $225 and includes the popular White House Medal. The album by itself is $35.
