2018 Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Clad Uncirculated Coin Reverse
In 2018, the U.S. Mint released the Breast Cancer Awareness Clad Half Dollar Coin. The coin is part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Program, which recognizes the many Americans who are impacted by the disease and the effort to prevent it through research. The program includes a gold, silver, and clad coin. A design competition selected the common obverse and reverse designs emblematic of the fight against breast cancer.
The common obverse (heads) design features two women. The older woman has her hands on her chest and a relieved expression on her face. The younger woman, with a scarf on her head, holds one hand over her chest and the other raised in a fist as if she is ready to fight. A butterfly flies above the two women.
The common reverse (tails) design depicts a Tiger Swallowtail butterfly in flight, a symbol of hope.
