Washington — The United States Mint announced today that the 2005 United States Mint Spring Collection catalog, featuring the 2005 Westward Journey Nickel Series™ Coin and Medal Set and the Chief Justice John Marshall Commemorative Silver Dollar, will be available by mail and online beginning May 13, 2005.

“The coins, medals and special products offered in this catalog are unique expressions of the artistry and craftsmanship for which the United States Mint is renowned,” said United States Mint Director Henrietta Holsman Fore. “We are especially pleased to have succeeded in bringing our 2005 products to market earlier in the year.”

The 2005 Westward Journey Nickel Series™ Coin and Medal Set features four United States Mint products that honor the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis &Clark expedition. Included are two proof 2005–dated nickels, one each of the American Bison and Ocean in View designs, a proof 2005–dated Golden Dollar and a silver–plated bronze replica of the Jefferson Peace Medal, originally given to American Indian leaders by the Lewis &Clark expedition.

Priced at $19.95 and limited to 75,000 sets, orders for the 2005 Westward Journey Nickel Series™ Coin and Medal Sets will be limited to five units per order and five units per household. The United States Mint will begin taking orders via the web, phone and mail on May 25, 2005. On June 7, if the product is still available, the order limits may be lifted.

The Chief Justice John Marshall Silver Dollar celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of our Nation’s fourth chief justice, whose 34–year tenure remains the longest in the Supreme Court’s history. The profile of Chief Justice Marshall featured on the obverse was designed by United States Mint sculptor–engraver John Mercanti. The view of the Old Supreme Court Chamber depicted on the reverse was executed by United States Mint sculptor–engraver Donna Weaver.

During a special early fulfillment period, from April 25 to June 27, the proof silver dollar will be available for $35 and the uncirculated silver dollar for $33. After May 25, the proof silver dollar will be available for $39 and the uncirculated silver dollar for $35. In addition to these single coin options, the Chief Justice John Marshall Silver Dollar will also be available as part of two–limited collectible sets. First, a Coin &Chronicles Set will feature a Bureau of Engraving and Printing intaglio print and an informative booklet. The coin will also appear in a special set with the Marine Corps 230th Commemorative Anniversary Silver Dollar later this year.

Complementing the portrait of Liberty that graces the obverse of the American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins, a new reverse design for 2005 features an American Bald Eagle perched upon a heraldic shield surrounded by symbols that represent America’s strength and bounty. These 99.95% pure platinum masterpieces range from $210 for the 1/10–ounce coin to $1,345 for the one–ounce coin, and $2,495 for the complete four–coin set.

This year’s catalog also features bronze duplicates of Congressional Gold Medals honoring two great Americans: Dorothy I. Height, recognized as one of the preeminent social and civil rights activists of her time, and Jackie Robinson, whose achievements began in athletics but expanded to have a profound and lasting impact on civil and human rights in America. The three–inch duplicates of each medal are $38; the 1–1/2–inch duplicates are $3.
