Lisa Goesling microscopically examines nature, creating hyper-detailed renderings of her observations. Lisa’s passion for creating art started early. She remembers being five years old selling handmade coloring books from a small table out in front of her house. Those same characters in her early coloring books still show up in her work. At twelve years old, Lisa began taking classes at the School of the Art Institute Chicago studying drawing, painting, and sculpture for many years.

Most of her career was spent as an art director/designer on projects for publishers, advertising agencies, and graphic design firms. After a 2006 cancer diagnosis, she followed her dream of making art full-time. Lisa discovered the medium of hard boards covered in kaolin clay and India ink after searching for a safe, non-toxic medium. She draws with a knife into the ink, and fine lines magically appear in the clay. If Lisa wants to add color, she paints with colored inks at the end of the process. Her innate ability to notice even the most minute details is translated into her meticulous art, compelling the viewer to take a closer look. Lisa’s art is in private collections, has won prestigious awards, residencies, and fellowships, and her work has been requested for exhibitions throughout the world.

Lisa’s work is fueled by her desire to “dig deeper.” Her ECO-PSYCHOLOGY series forms an intimate bond between the viewer and her intricate art, reminding us of the infinite power of beauty. Her INTERACTION series creates a space of shared emotions as characters interact across the page, strengthening our shared sense of fellowship. Lastly, Lisa’s SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION drawings are inspired by nature and filled with detailed textures and patterns that evolve into complex designs.
