Sean Murray is an award-winning freelance illustrator, concept artist, and professor of illustration and visual development at Ringling College of Art and Design. He is a graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration.

Sean began his career as an illustrator for role-playing games such as Legend of the 5 Rings and GURPS while living outside of Washington, DC. He later moved to New York City where he continued his career as a web game designer. In 2004, he moved to Boston where he got his first full-time video game concept artist job.

As a concept artist in the video game industry, Sean worked on projects such as Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, and Kingdoms of Amalur. Sean worked for Guillermo Del Toro as a concept designer on several projects, including Carnival Row (an Amazon Originals fantasy TV series), Trollhunters (the illustrated book and the Netflix TV series), 3Below, Wizards, and Rise of the Titans. He worked as a concept artist for Minions 2, was the creature designer for the movie Slenderman, and more. Recently, he worked on an unannounced project with Darren Aronofsky and Netflix. His work has been commissioned for numerous game and comic projects such as Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, Sideshow Collectibles’ Court of the Dead, DC Comics’ Sandman: The House of Whispers, and more recently The Book of Lorath; for the popular video game Diablo IV.

Sean also spends time working on his personal world-building project called “The Great City of Gateway.” He is finishing production of a full-color illustrated book and is developing a tabletop role-playing game based on this project, scheduled for a 2025 release. He has also released several volumes of sketch collections from his personal sketchbooks. He currently lives in downtown Sarasota, Florida with his wife, Kathleen, their son, Connor, Rosie the dog, and Bun-Bun the cat.
