Hakeem Jeffries, and other members of the Congressional Black Caucus to celebrate the Harriet Tubman Commemorative Coin Program. The lunchtime event took place at the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill.

The program not only promoted the importance of representation on U.S. coins and currency, but it also served to honor and congratulate Meeks for the successful passing of the Harriet Tubman Bicentennial Commemorative Coin Act. The three coins from the program were on display for attendees to see.

Director Gibson shared her enthusiasm for the program and all that it promotes. “I hope the Harriet Tubman Commemorative Coins encapsulates the feeling of undeniable leadership and that it inspires others to fight for and uplift their communities,” she said.

Coins from the Harriet Tubman Commemorative Coin Program are currently among the Mint’s top-selling products. Surcharges from the sale of these coins directly support the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Harriet Tubman Home, Inc. in Auburn, New York, for the purpose of accomplishing and advancing their important missions.
