United States Mint Earns Top Honors

October 6, 2003

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint is the recipient of the “Excellence in Enterprise Architecture” award, presented by the Federal Enterprise Architecture Certification Institute, Federal Computer Week and e–Gov. The presentation took place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC, on September 11, 2003.

The award recognizes best practices in the development and implementation of successful enterprise architectures. An organization’s enterprise architecture (EA) is the infrastructure that supports and integrates business, operations, and information technology (IT) systems for better and more efficient service.

With approximately 100 submissions, the United States Mint was among three Federal agencies to earn the Leadership in Enterprise Architecture Award for Excellence in Enterprise Architecture for a Government Civilian Agency. Nominees were required to have enterprise architecture projects in full production, solving significant problems with measurable results. Additionally, the award–winning projects must show increased productivity, savings in resources, and improvements in the quality, timeliness, and accuracy of services provided by the agencies.

“This award confirms our employees’ commitment to excellence and innovation,” said United States Mint Director Henrietta Holsman Fore. “The Mint Enterprise Architecture has improved access to, and applications for, managers throughout the Mint, significantly reduced systems maintenance requirements and reduced the overall cost of our IT systems ownership.”
