United States Mint to Release 2009 Spring Gift Catalog May 19

WASHINGTON — The United States Mint announced today that its 2009 Spring Gift Catalog will be released on May 19. Featured products include the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin, Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar, Presidential $1 and Native American $1 Coins, and District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters.

“The products offered in our 2009 Spring Gift Catalog reflect the excellence in artistry and craftsmanship that collectors expect in genuine United States Mint products,” said United States Mint Director Ed Moy. “These products not only make perfect gifts for any occasion but also are wonderful additions to any collection.”

Taking center stage in the catalog is the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin. The 24–karat gold coin–a triumph in 21st century coin design–is presented in a handsome mahogany wood box. Each coin comes with a companion book that describes the digital technology used to produce it. The catalog includes the first 2009–dated coin in the First Spouse Gold Coin Series bearing the portrait of Anna Harrison, wife of our Nation’s ninth President, William Henry Harrison. Bronze medals bearing the likeness on the Anna Harrison First Spouse Gold Coin are also available for $3.50.

A commemorative coin, the 2009 Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar, is also included in the catalog. The coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Louis Braille, inventor of the Braille system, which is still used by the blind to read and write. Minted at the United States Mint at Philadelphia, the 2009 Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar is 90 percent silver and is available in both proof and uncirculated versions priced at $41.95 and $33.95, respectively. The uncirculated coin is also offered in an easy–open capsule for $33.95.

Presidential $1 Coin products offered in the catalog include the 2009 United States Mint Presidential $1 Coin Proof Set™ featuring coins honoring Presidents William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James K. Polk and Zachary Taylor. The set, priced at $14.95, includes coins that are specially packaged to allow visibility of their distinctive edge–lettering.
