Harriet Tubman $5 Gold Coin
The U.S. Mint will release the 2024 Harriet Tubman Silver Dollar as part of the Harriet Tubman Commemorative Coin Program. The program celebrates the bicentennial of Harriet Tubman’s birth. The Mint will strike $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins, and half dollar clad coins as part of the program. The designs follow the three periods of Tubmans’ life and work.
The $5 designs represent her life after the Civil War. She helped care for newly freed enslaved people on her farm in Auburn, New York. She was involved in organizations and gave speeches in support of women’s suffrage and civil rights.
Recipient Organization: National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and The Harriet Tubman Home, Inc.Surcharges in the amount of $35 for each $5 gold coin sold, $10 for each silver dollar sold, and $5 for each half dollar sold are authorized to be paid to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Harriet Tubman Home, Inc., in Auburn, New York to advance their missions.

Commemorative coin programs are created by acts of Congress to honor a person, place, or event. Surcharges from the sales of these coins help fund a variety of organizations and projects that benefit the public. Commemorative coins are only available from the United States Mint for a limited time, as specified by public law.
The obverse (heads) features a portrait of Harriet Tubman in her years following the Civil War, looking confidently into the distance and towards the future.
The reverse (tails) depicts both arms of an individual firmly clasping one arm of another individual, symbolizing the aid and care that Harriet Tubman offered to others throughout her life. Encircling the arms are inscriptions of Harriet Tubman’s seven core values.
